The animation is from one of the the lowest points in Hanna-Barbera’s career – poor by today’s standards. The DVD features are very bare bones. Still, if you watched these cartoons in the 1970’s & 1980’s they are a must-have item – and they still keep the kids entertained today without some of the violence you see in today’s cartoons.

Warner Bros announced the release of SuperFriends – The 2nd Season for May 24. These are all 16 episodes from the 1978 run of the show featuring Zan & Jayna: The Wonder Twins! This 2 disc set (365 mins) The release will sport a full frame (1.33:1) transfer, and English mono audio, with English, French and Spanish subtitles. Two bonus features were announced:
-Pajama-Rama: Super Friends Retrospective – A group of pop culture enthusiasts and fun celebrities share their memories of the world’s greatest team of ’70’s super-heroes, The Super Friends!
-The Ballad of Zan & Jayna – A wild and wacky music video celebrating the Wonder Twins, and of course, their pet primate Gleek!
SHOW HISTORY:
1973 saw the original Superfriends show, featuring the heros followed by non-powered kids Wendy & Marvin, and their pet Wonderdog. There are not too many cartoons in that series, and they were repeated quite a bit on and off until 1977’s All-New Superfirends Hour came along. That is the show where the tag-along teens were first replaced by the Wonder Twins, Zan & Jayna, and their space-monkey Gleek. In 1978, the show continued, retitled as simply Superfriends. That season is the one which aired the episodes announced today for DVD release. At the same time, Challenge of the Superfriends was running adjacent to this, featuring the episodes of the Justice League of America vs. The Legion of Doom. All 16 of *those* episodes are already on DVD in Challenge of the Superfriends – The 1st Season. Since they call that “the first season” and the new title “the second season”, we honestly can’t tell if Warner means to ignore the 1973 Wendy/Marvin/Wonderdog installments totally.
Zan, Jayna, & Gleek continued in 1979’s World’s Greatest Superfriends, with a few new episodes mixed with repeats of the older ones. 1980 saw more than 60 new shorts (under 10 minutes each in length) made featuring just the heroes, with no teenage sidekicks, and those were combined with old episodes into a new Superfriends Hour show. But then that show was shortened to a half-hour for 1981-83 and the show went under various names, accompanied by maybe about two dozen more new shorts…some of which were never aired in the original rotation, but which aired later in syndication. Then, in 1984, ABC wanted to revitalize the series, and that’s when they did Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show, using the new DC Comics name from the action figure lineup that was being marketed at the time. The cartoons mainly featured the heroes from the toy line, so now Cyborg (from the “Teen Titans” comics) and Firestorm (from “Firestorm: The Nuclear Man”) were on the team. There were only 15 episodes produced under that name, and then they finished up the SuperFriends’ TV run with The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians. That 1985 show had more of the heroes who hadn’t been seen the previous year, especially fan favorites who had mostly been missing since Challenge, like Flash, Green Lantern, and Hawkman. There were approximately 10 episodes of that show.

You can disregard the other customer reviews as they are objective people rating their inability to bewitch the product they wanted. If you couldn’t read the product information page far enough to eye that this was a Marvel appealing movie and not the live action movie starring Robert Downey Jr that is your have dilemma. Please don’t write negative reviews of something that have nothing to do with the valid product. That is dishonest and doesn’t abet your fellow online shoppers.

That being said if you like Marvel’s other enthralling movies (The Avengers, The Avengers 2, Dr. Irregular etc…) then you will like this movie. The animation is top notch and the insist work is decent. It is a well done Iron Man origin tale and I hope to search for more though-provoking movies in Marvel’s future.
So yeah, this is a valid bright marvel movie. And for you folks that couldn’t bid it was provocative by looking at the box…WOW, Its wonderful to me you people actually acquire it out of your driveway. Try using your eyes next time, you might be surprised…p

My wife and I took a chance on this and rented it when we couldn’t salvage anything else. We haven’t seen any other Apatow films — they all looked a tiny too adolescent for our tastes. We had read some splendid reviews of this, though, so we gave it a shot. It was a right surprise — very clever, well-written, and genuinely humorous. Gargantuan cast, and all give expedient performances. Lots of valid talent went into this. A very exquisite movie.
“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” is another smashing success brought to you by Judd Apatow and friends. This time it is Jason Segel’s turn to shine and he certainly does not dissapoint with a script that is both laugh out loud amusing and emotionally unprejudiced.

While one has near to interrogate Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, and even Segel himself to be on point because of their past turns in other Apatow produced comedies, it is the newcomers that really price.
Like Christpher Mint-Plaisse as Fogel in “Superbad” it is the ability to collect current and new comedic voices that have largely contributed to the success of past Apatow movies like “Superbad”, “Knocked up”, and even “40 year venerable virgin”.
“Sarah Marshall” introduces the british Comedian Russell Stamp to American audiences as Aldous Snow the ultra-ridiculous british rockstar/new boyfriend of Sarah Marshall. Ticket has dynamite laughable timing and is certainly willing to do anything for a laugh. His interactions with Jonah Hill whose character is obsessed with him are both creepy and laugh out loud silly.
the other true suprise is Mila Kunis. While I enjoyed her as jackie on “That 70’s Display”, her work here is truly relevatory. While she is essentially playing the requiste “dream girl” she is able to give the fraction some loyal depth while giving the movie a valid warmth.

The other standout for me was Bill Hader who is funnier everytime I view him. Most will probably search for him from his work in Superbad as Seth Rogen’s partner and in this he plays segel’s step-brother who is not disturbed to boom Peter exactly how it is.
I also feel I need to mention Kristen Bell who plays Sarah Marshall. While the role is rather thankless she is quite amusing and gives the character loyal bite. She also nails perhaps the most impartial scene I have ever seen in a romantic comedy when she finally tells Peter why it didnt work between them. Both actors shine in the scene, but her work is both unbiased and heartbreaking and gives her character a depth that I certainly was not expecting.

It is so gratifying to finally scrutinize a major motion report made about the WWII Russian Front. After all, it was the Red Army that inflicted 80% of Germany’s total casualties in the war, a fact that many Americans remain sadly ignorant of. It is high time we salvage past Frosty War attitudes and pay tribute to the heroism of the Soviet Union in its bitter but ultimately triumphant struggle against Nazism. _Enemy at the Gates_ is a movie of myth proportions, featuring generous overall performances by a solid cast as well as a spectacular cinematic recreation of the bombed-out city of Stalingrad.
Still, the movie tends to high-tail at times, and could have been powerful better. The appreciate triangle subplot was more of a distraction than anything else, taking up time that could have been better veteran to enlighten more of the awesome fable of the battle of Stalingrad as a whole. Rather than simply having the German commander plot, “These snipers are demoralizing my people,” it would have been nice to have actually “seen” a diminutive bit more of how the actions of Zaitsev and the Soviet snipers wore down the vaunted German infantry. Regrettably, the duel between Zaitsev and Koenig seemed to be taking region in a separate reality than the war itself, almost giving the impression that both sides had an unwritten agreement to let the two rivals shoot it out without interference. Also, the abrupt ending gave no explanation as to how the Red Army, seemingly on the ropes throughout the movie, suddenly emerged victorious. It would not have taken distinguished film time to define how this came about: the tenacity of Stalingrad�s defenders drew the mechanized German forces into costly city fighting, allowing the Red Army�s distinguished reserves massed to the north and south to punch through the feeble Axis flanks and encircle the Germans. Saving Private Ryan succeeded in telling considerable of the myth of the Normandy invasion in a intention that neatly complimented the movie�s set. I wish that Enemy at the Gates had made more of a similar misfortune.
I know that �dramatic license� is a fact of life with historical movies, but it is scheme overdone in this one. The opening sequence of the Volga crossing is worthy filmmaking and is mostly apt up until Zaitsev and his fellow soldiers enter the city. The following section about only every other man receiving a weapon and being sent of in a suicide charge is purely the stuff of anecdote, though, more fitting of the WWI Russian Army or a Soviet punishment battalion. The reality was that the Red Army in Stalingrad fought mostly in cramped detachments armed with submachine guns rather than rifles, interesting stealthily amongst the rubble and ambushing the Germans in brutal house-to-house fighting. This sort of close-quarter combat, where the front lines were often separated by less than 20 yards (or even a mere hallway or staircase), would have played out on hide fair as well (better, in fact) as the �charge of the Red horde� that is the stuff of well-liked imagination rather than upright history. The conclusion of this scene is misleading, as well. The Soviets did shoot many deserters who attempted to fly the front lines, but this degree of harshness did not apply to survivors of a failed attack as shown in the film. The commanders of the Red Army were often brutal towards their men, but not quite that brutal. As for the draw the sniper duel is finally brought to a terminate, with Koenig walking correct in dull understanding towards what he suspects is the site where he has impartial shot Zaitsev tiring,, it is honest ridiculous. Not even a rookie sniper would have made such a fatal error, mighty less an instructor.

The Soviet characters all part the names of loyal people, but none are apt to their real-world counterparts. Vassili Zaitsev was more of a natural leader than the movie gives him credit for, not objective a petrified boy from the Urals reluctantly pushed into the limelight. Danilov, the political officer, appears to have been crafted by the screenwriters almost solely in order to do a faddish sparkling statement about the pitfalls of Communist idealism. The sincere Danilov was shot (though not fatally) when he foolishly stood up to point out Major Koenig�s set to Zaitsev, not in an act of suicide. Tania Chernova�s on-screen character was the furthest from reality, though. She was actually a short, short-tempered blonde who had previously fought as a partisan in Byelorussia and the Ukraine. A customary killer by the time she arrived in Stalingrad and possessing a single-minded hatred of the Germans, the real-life Tania could hardly have been more different from the sensitive student/soldier who never actually fires her rifle once throughout the whole film. Also, Chernova was likely Ukrainian, not Jewish (only worth noting because of the widespread record that most Ukrainians welcomed the Nazis as liberators from Soviet rule) . Ironically, the character that seemed truest to reality was Major Koenig, a murky figure who some historians claim might never have existed.
Though I stale most of the position here to criticize this movie, I guess the fact that I bought the DVD means that I nonetheless enjoyed it. I probably would have rated it better were I not such a Russian history buff. Do yourself a favor and steal the time to read both _Enemy at the Gates_, by William Craig (a very readable non-fiction sage of the whole Stalingrad campaign) and _War of the Rats_, by David Robbins (a novelized version of the sniper duel that is both a better yarn and closer to historical fact than this movie was) . My main regret is that the film�s potential was largely squandered to create room for unneeded political rhetoric and melodrama. I only hope that its mediocre performance will not discourage film producers from backing other Russian Front projects in the future.
After many major Hollywood epics about the war on the Western Front (THE LONGEST DAY, PATTON, A BRIDGE TOO FAR, BATTLE OF THE BULGE, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN), it is long overdue that ENEMY AT THE GATES, centered on the pivotal battle for Stalingrad, should play to audiences … particularly American audiences.
The core of the area is the personal duel between two expert snipers, the Red Army’s Vasily Zaitsev (Jude Law) and the German Wehrmacht major, Koenig (Ed Harris), the latter brought into the Stalingrad cauldron to destroy the weak before he totally destroys the morale of the German troops trying to rob the city. It’s a cat and mouse confrontation depicted with startling realism, though, in this case, the mouse is honest as deadly as the cat. The rest of the film is unprejudiced window dressing, especially the sappy appreciate triangle between Zaitsev, political commissar Danilov (Joseph Fiennes), and a female Red Army sniper, Tania, played by Rachel Weisz.

The film, status among the rubble and destroyed factories of Stalin’s city, is visually graceful. The performances of Law, Harris and Fiennes are obliging, as is that by Bob Hoskins, who plays Joe Stalin’s political representative on the scene, Nikita Krushchev. My complaints center on the accents of the main characters, which don’t sound Russian by any stretch of the imagination, the previously-mentioned and totally superfluous admire epic, and the fact that the Krushchev is given blueprint too grand cloak time at the expense of the Russian general, Chuikov, who doesn’t even appear, even though he was the Red Army’s military commander whose gritty defense of the city ultimately prevailed.
This legend of the duel between Zaitsev and his German nemesis is based in fact, though a better telling of the myth is the work of book fiction, WAR OF THE RATS, by David Robbins. If you’re eager in this footnote to the Stalingrad struggle, the book is a “must”, and the film will wait on as helpful visual reinforcement.

I went to study one of Craig’s live shows and laughed so hard my stomach damage. Nothing is as noble as seeing the present live, but the DVD is magnificent finish. He has enormous energy and enthusisam and really connects with the audience.

The interview that was included on the DVD was mountainous too. The main thing you can say about Craig is that he’s wonderful. I believe that’s why so many people feel such a connection with him.
I paid about $12 for this….so that is about the designate of a movie label these days. Most movies I exercise that on stink…so before throwing this in the trash as another reviewer suggested..lets withhold the tag in mind. I enjoyed myself a tall deal during his standup. I don’t build him up with unique greats like Brian Reagan, Robert Schimmel or even Christopher Titus and certainly not comedy gods like Carlin..but Ferguson is charming and comical and I will peruse this from time to time. The bonus interview is very enlightening and the extra speech fun. This is a very expedient value for money folks. If you like standup…want a different perspective and certainly if you are a fan of Mr Ferguson…lighten up and like!

Ok… I know what you’re thinking… “Why should I pick these two Munster movies on DVD AGAIN? ” Well, despite the fact that the packaging is uninteresting and ghastly. Despite the fact that there are NO bonus extras of any kind. Despite the fact that there aren’t even any trailers or chapter stops. It doesn’t matter. These original digital transfers gain seeing “Munster, Go Home” and “The Munsters Revenge” an ENTIRELY unusual viewing experience.

I’ve loved “The Munsters” since it’s CBS premiere in 1964. I have every episode on 16mm as well as on DVD. I even have a 16mm print of “Munster, Go Home” in IB Technicolor! NOTHING compares to Universal’s crisp, novel transfer! Watching the film in in its widescreen 16×9 theatrical aspect ratio was icy enough. But the colors! WOW! Herman is REALLY GREEN. Eddie’s costume is a deep PURPLE. Lily’s cheeks are BLUE. The clarity. The focus. Awesome! Even the sound is crisp and positive. When compared side-by-side to the earlier Apt Times DVD, the visual dissimilarity is hideous. The Noble Times transfer is muddy, contasty and fair listless crumby by comparison. The only Puny drawback is the trade-off in aspect ratios. The Munsters series and “Munster, Go Home” was shot in 35mm 1.33::1 aspect ratio. Basically the same as what you peep on TV. In 1966, the film would have been shown in theaters cropped at the top and bottom to approximate a widescreen or “cinematic” survey. In other words, “Munster, Go Home” would have been shot in a 4×5 or “Flat” aspect ratio but was designed to be cropped for movie theaters. This is the aspect ratio Universal has chosen for this transfer. The Beneficial Times DVD preserves the stout frame, so you do gather more portray information on the top and bottom. Nevertheless, this DVD gives you about 5% more narrate information on each side of the frame and, because a widescreen TV will “blow up” the image to possess the cover, the overall enact is unprejudiced like seeing the film in a theater in 1966. Better, actually; because not even a 35mm IB Technicolor print could match this transfer for sharpness.
“Munster’s Revenge” is similarly provocative and positive, although it is presented as it was always intended to be seen: in a 4×3 or “flat” aspect ratio. According to Fred Gwynne, NBC had hoped a reliable rating would explain bring “The Munsters” abet as an NBC prime time series. CBS was so threatened, they assign “The Wizard of Oz” on opposite it. They needn’t have jumpy. K.C. Martel as Eddie looks like a abominable kid’s Scott Baio. He looks so queer it reminds you of impartial how wintry Butch Patrick really was. (Proof that not every 13 year worn boy can obtain away with wearing knickers, face paint and a Small Lord Fauntleroy jacket!) Jo MacDonnell as Marilyn looks the fraction, but that’s about it. It seems like the writers ran out of material to bear a 90 runt time period so the actors impartial ham it up to destroy time. The pacing is similarly unpleasant. Leaden is a better word. Unpleasant puns like “I’ll drink to that” lie there like corpses.
But, in fairness, I remember that NBC ran “The Munsters Revenge” in 1981 with a laughtrack — so that it would seem like a vintage episode of the series. Editing for a laughtrack requires that “laugh pad” is added after a joke so that the canned laughs have a chance to subside. The quandary is, by taking the track out, all Universal has done is point to unpleasant jokes for what they are… Abominable. But the unpleasant amusing timing isn’t Gwynne and Lewis’ fault. Dreadful editing and old-fashioned writing will accomplish even the best actor perceive like Ben Affleck in “Pearl Harbor.” (Now THAT’s scary!)
Ah, who cares! Munsters are tall! Munsters rule! And this DVD combo is a must have – no matter its shortcomings! (For extras, by the blueprint, check out “The Munsters: America’s First Family of Anxiety” DVD from Image Entertainment. It’s the perfect companion!)
Although we accumulate a bare-bones treatment here without commentaries from such surviving cast members as Butch Patrick or Yvonne DeCarlo, or even a promotional trailer, nevertheless “Munster Go Home!” looks gargantuan. I have the old-fashioned “GoodTimes” release on DVD, but this comes from Universal and, unlike the GoodTimes release, this one is presented in widescreen and looks inviting and crisp. “Munster Go Home!” is the best of the lot as “The Munsters’ Revenge,” as most fans know, wasn’t up to par. Level-headed, that TV movie looks astronomical too. I am taking one star away because of the lack of extras but Munster aficionados will want to capture this DVD.

European star Franco Nero may always be remembered for his roles in Sergio Corbucci’s movies, Django, Sergei Kowalski, Yodlaf Peterson, but he made a handful of other spaghetti westerns worth watching, this one included. Nero plays Burt Sullivan, a sheriff of a Texas border town. But one day, he decides to leave the town and scuttle into Mexico in search of Cisco Delgado, the man who gunned down his father many years before. Tagging along with Burt is his younger brother, Jim, who’s inexperienced but quiet obliging with a gun. The two brothers pick up out that Delgado has made quite a life for himself, basically ruling a Mexican town and his mountainous estate with an iron hand. Burt wants to bring him benefit to Texas to face a believe, but upon meeting him discovers a vast secret that could dash him and his brother apart. An early spaghetti western from 1966, Texas, Adios could have passed for an American western in many ways. It doesn’t have that unlit, cynical feel that many later spaghettis did, but it’s mild a estimable movie for fans of the genre. Lots of pleasurable action with plenty of fistfights and shootouts. The music is marvelous, especially the main theme, but the Texas, Adios song is elegant dreadful. Fans of spaghetti westerns won’t be disappointed, there’s plenty here to recommend.

Fair up there with Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef as some of the biggest spaghetti stars, Franco Nero is very noble here as Burt Sullivan, the Texas lawman seeking vengeance on his father’s murderer. Nero was always worthy as the smart-mouthed gunman, here he’s more serious, but his role is strong objective the same. And if nothing else, it’s fun to observe Nero as a lawman for once, not an outlaw/bandit. Alberto Dell’Acqua, credited as Cole Kitosch, plays Jim, Burt’s younger brother who tags along with his brother into Mexico. Jose Suarez gets to be the villain here as Cisco Delgado, the man who killed the Sullivan’s father and now is a wealthy landowner. Delgado isn’t a typical spaghetti awful guy, but that has to do with the twist delivered about an hour in. The rest of the cast includes some recognizable faces from the more mainstream Italian westerns including Luigi Pistilli, Livio Lorenzon, Elisa Montes, José Guardiola, Gino Pernice, and Silvana Bacci.
The Blue Underground DVD is a welcome addition to any DVD collection with a challenging looking widescreen presentation, “Aid in the Saddle with Franco Nero,” a six-minute interview with Nero about his experiences in Italian westerns, a trailer, and a detailed Nero bio in menu effect. Also worth mentioning, Italian audio and English subtitles are included because the dub isn’t one of the best. So for an consuming spaghetti western led by Franco Nero, check out Texas, Adios!
Franco Nero heads down to Mexico to snag the guy who killed his father years aid, so he can stand trial in Texas. Nero’s brother tags along as well. The villain’s now living like a king down in Mexico and practically runs the whole town, so he’s certainly not gonna honest let Nero prefer him that easily. But we all know that what Franco wants, Franco gets. In fair James Bond tradition, the villain invites Nero and his brother to dinner instead of objective having them killed on the location. Why? A twist in the site, that’s why! There’s more to the relationship between the brothers and the villain that meets the notice. There’s also some revolutionaries plotting a gigantic attack, powerful to Nero’s advantage. As stated before, this spaghetti western has more in approved with the American westerns of the time. This is one of the few times you’ll scrutinize Nero as a lawman rather than an outlaw. While it may not be Django or Keoma, this is a very kindly and capable addition to the world of spaghetti westerns.

We stumbled onto “off the baa” and got it for Christmas. Our family is mountainous Wallace & Gromit fans and we were not disappointed by this DVD. So we have been eagerly awaiting the second installment. We ordered serveral copies and another copy of the Wallace and Gromit collection. Amazon claimed 5 to 7 days shipping, precise shipping time 11 days according to tracking info. We would have gladly paid for shipping to bag this in a reasonable amount of time. 11 days is blueprint to long.
We first saw Shaun the Sheep on Disney and our son (one year dilapidated at the time) loved it so powerful we bought the DVD place from Amazon UK and a Plot Free DVD player unprejudiced so he could eye it. He’s almost 2 1/2 now and unruffled loves it. He recently started watching Wallace and Gromit and loves the trio of shows and the were-rabbit movie, too!

Robert Salis (’À la recherche du paradis perdu’) has not only adapted the play by Jean-Marie Besset for the cover, he is also the thoughtful, quick-witted, and engrossing director of this limited masterwork. Though there is great to please the casual explore (the cast is a collection of truly delicate people!) with sensual scenes as fearless as any yet filmed, the staunch beauty of Grande école is the multilayered fable, a memoir which explores the dichotomies of class, urge, gender, philosophy, economic situation, and history and social issues – unprejudiced the sort of milieu expected from a ‘big school’ environment.

A spectacular opening sequence reveals a castle-like private college in Paris complete with extended pyrotechnic displays of aerial fireworks, a exquisite metaphor for the personal explosions that will accompany the students in the school year in this college of the prosperous and one heavily weighted toward capitalistic ideals of perpetuating wealth. Paul (Gregori Baquet) is at the onset an oddity: he is he son of a Marseilles contractor, a man who has created a home life of racism and classism, a father who haughtily sends his son to the elite school to learn marketing and management despite the fact that Paul is more inclined toward the artistic aspects of learning. Paul has a girlfriend Agnès (the stunningly aesthetic Alice Taglioni) who is a liberal supporter of human rights and while she attends the neighboring liberal arts college, she cannot understand why Paul can’t section a flat with her. Paul prefers to live in the dorm and his roommates are the passive Chouquet (Arthur Jugnot) and the pinnacle of materialism Louis-Arnault (Jocelyn Quivrin), who not only is focused on his studies but also on his college water polo team and his girlfriend Emeline (Elodie Navarre) .
Paul and Louis-Arnault bond and though Paul has a strongly luminous sexual relationship with Agnès, he finds himself attracted to Louis-Arnault. In a post-game shower room scene Paul sits on the bench viewing the team playfully soaping each other and his sense of sexual awakening is palpable. Paul steals Louis-Arnoult’s boxers, lies on his bed and we are aware that he desires Louis-Arnault. During this opening of the school year the three roommates stroll the campus and encounter an argument among the workers: Mécir (Salim Kechiouche), a young ravishing Arab from the working class, is being berated and Paul jumps to his defense. The two build explore contact and a chemistry is created. Though neither of the two considers himself homosexual (and there is a splendid scene that describes that desire is desire whether hetero or homo sexual) but gradually they drift into an erotic world of sexual discovery (in some of the most artistically sensual filming ever created!) .

Agnès senses Paul’s sexual changes and convinced that his longings are for Louis-Arnault, she poses a wager on which one will have the spruce Louis-Arnault first. Changes and conflicts occur honest and left (mise-en-scenes lifted directly from the play) and the bonding of each of the characters is dramatically altered – Paul, Agnès, Louis-Arnault, Emeline, and especially Mécir, who is the only character in the film who seems in touch with his inner person. It is about the social and sexual and class games people play and how these irrational subdivisions of our culture can lead to black ends.
The cast is not only physically graceful (and there is sufficient plump frontal nudity to pick up access to the complete actors!) but they reply to Robert Salis’ direction with graceful ensemble acting. The interweaving of dream sequences and illusions that accompany the utterly grounded lawful storyline enhance the film immeasurably. Emmanuel Soyer is responsible for the aesthetic cinematography and Éric Neveux for the fresh musical fetch, a pick up beautifully complemented by excerpts of the music of Bach, Brahms, Bizet, Donizetti, Puccini and Shostakovich.
As an famous and curious addition to the CD Director Salis presents an wonderful ‘making of’ segment including deleted scenes (and why they were deleted), running commentary from all of the actors, and a discussion of Foucault’s philosophy and the nebulous concept of ‘desire’ – a facet of being an alive being. Highly recommended for those who long for engaging films of substance, films that impress on the psyche for meditation long after the film is finished. Grady Harp, July 05
An fabulous film, far better than so many foreign and indie films released in theatres. Shimmering, erotic, surprising, suspenseful and literate, it keeps your attention from the opening shot (you’ll peep why) and then unfolds in ways that find you unawares. I can understand most straight to DVD offerings but this one remains a mystery. A squandered opportunity by Wellspring Releasing (that released that pretentious dud “Twenty Nine Palms”) . Peer it on the slight conceal if you must but peer it.
